Institut Monte Rosa – International School

Academic Year

Each application will be reviewed carefully on an individual basis.

In order to apply, each applicant needs to submit:

  • Completed Application Form
  • A copy of the student’s last two years’ school reports/transcripts (if applying for grade 12, please send the results of the last 3 years)
  • A passport copy

Certain nationalities will first require a long-term visa to enter Switzerland. This visa must be requested from the Swiss representation (embassy or consulate) closest to the student’s home abroad. Our school will assist the student with the visa procedure which can take up to 2 months to complete and must be started as soon as the student is enrolled.

Once at school we will arrange the student to get a residence permit (B-Permit) from the cantonal migration offices.  This permit is valid for a year or two and renewable.

If considered necessary, depending on previous results and entry level, the applicant will need to take an entrance test or a short interview with our Head of Studies.

All new students are tested in English and Mathematics upon their arrival at school. This evaluation will confirm whether the level is good enough to follow the courses.

English placement test may be given in advance when necessary.

Here is a guideline about the level of English required:

Grade 12 Minimum standard of English is to have passed the Cambridge IELTS exam with a minimum score of 5.5
Grade 11 Minimum standard of English is to have passed Cambridge First Certificate exam
Grade 10 Minimum standard of English is to have passed Cambridge PET exam
Grade 9 Minimum standard of English is to have passed Cambridge KET exam
Juniors Should have some English but will be assessed on arrival and will have extra English classes when deemed necessary

EFL courses are organized all throughout the academic year for students whose English level is not sufficient. We may also suggest you to follow one term of intensive English before joining our academic program.

There is no official deadline. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible, especially if a visa procedure is to be followed.

According to student’s age, previous school results and English level.

Long-time experienced mother-tongued teachers and staff.

We will try our best to make all necessary arrangements to allow the student to pursue it.

Mobile phones, computers and tablets are accepted, but must not be brought to class or meals, or must be turned off. All phones off at 21:30. Electronic devices may be confiscated by the school if they are used in violation of the school's policy or if they impact on academic performance.

We recommend a minimum amount of CHF. 70.- (or at legal representative’s discretion).

The student can come up to twice a week to the office to receive pocket money (weekly allowance as per the legal representative’s recommendation).
